Today we walked around most of Venice. We slept in and then went and had espresso to start off the day. These are becoming more frequent now, we both really like them. Venice is kind of shaped in a fish with all of the different islands, and if you look at a map it does look similar to a fish. There is a main road that goes all through the city of Venice going into all the different parts, and all is based around the Grande Canal. While we walk around we stop and look in stores and window shop.
While we were walking we passed a Leonardo Divinci exhibit and went to it. This was in a old church. It had replicas of paintings as well as parts of his writings, and many things about all of his inventions of the bike, pulley, ball bearings, and the flight machine.
We ate lunch today at this neat little pizza place and had fried olives and split a calzone! Yum.
Next we crossed the Ponte di Rialto bridge and headed towards San Marco. We went to see the St. Mark’s Square and walk around the Palazzo Ducale and the Museo Civivo Correr. We went all the way up the Bell Tower and have an amazing view of the St. Mark’s Basilica. We did not go in the basilica because the line was super long. From the Bell Tower we could also see the port of Candi di San Marco.
Then we walked to Dorsodue and saw the S. Maria della Salute. This was a beautiful building on the very corner of the island. There were many times that we go lost during the day... somehow we managed to get back to the main road and find out way!!!
Later that night while we were walking around we stopped for a drink, they had Bellini in a bottle, and these were so good!! Devin also had some good beer!
It is strange to be walking around and see the police officers with guns just roaming the streets. They do not have cars so they just walk around. This creeps me out to be honest.
