September 7, 2009

The late night/early morning started off rough. I was looking at our travel plans and realized that we had not printed off our buss passes and if you do not have the ticket printed off you can not get on the bus! So Devin left the flat around one thirty in the morning to go to a 24-hour internet place to print off our tickets. He found the place and printed them off for us! Then he had to walk home in the rain.
Bed.
We got up at 0515 today! Jessica and I are taking a three day holiday (vacation) to Scotland!! We get ready and head to the train station to meet our bus! We get to the station only to fine out they do not open for another thirty minutes! We have to walk! We start walking and realize we are going to be late so we decided to get on the next bus going the direction we needed to go. We got on the bus and got off near our stop. We found the place and got on the easybus and took the hour long ride to the airport. We boarded the plane and walked to the back of the plane to get seats near the exit! We got good seats with a man and a cello next to him taking up two seats. Now let me explain a little about ryanair! We got tickets for nine pounds one way which is a really good deal, then we had to bay 10 pounds process fee, and if we were going to check luggage is is around 20 pounds for the first bag! They are really strict on the luggage making you put it in the slot to see if it will fit before you board the plane and weighing bags while they scan your boarding pass. So knowing all this I wondered how much the guy had to pay to take this huge thing with him. So the final call has been made to take your seat and prepare for departure and the main flight attendant comes and starts checking everything in the cabin and does not like the cello! She said that it is not safe and she has to go talk to the captain... next thing I see is the captain walking down the isle to look at this stupid thing! End of story they were going to make him take it off but instead they just made him put it in the very last row and then move all the seats around it. Thus making us move to the middle of the crowded plane!!
We landed and started looking for the train into Glascow Central! We got on and it only took about forty minutes to get there. We left the station and started looking for our hotel. We found it and left our backpacks so we could start looking around. We decided to get a bus tour. We got on the open-top bus tour it was a really good tour around the entire city but it was freezing cold!

When we got done we checked into our hotel and then went and had tea at The Willow Tea Room! This was so good! The Willow was the only tea room building where Mackintosh had complete control over every aspect of the design. He modelled the exterior as well as the interior of the building and even designed the tea spoons and waitresses' dresses.
The Willow name comes from Sauchiehall, the street where it is situated, which in Scottish Gaelic means alley of the willows and the theme of willows featured throughout the building. We had the afternoon tea which was: A Selection of Sandwiches, Scone with Butter, Preserve and Cream, buttered shortbread, Choice of Cake from the Cake Trolley Complimented with your Choice of Tea or Coffee!! Yum and so fun!
Later that evening we walked around the town and down the famous Sauchiehall Street and went into shops and stores!
